Tech Note 1: 1996 Changes
1996 GM NV4500 Bearing Change ALERT:
The 1996 model year GM NV4500 transmission is a unique transmission configuration that retains the 5.61:1 reverse gear ratio, but the input bearing retainer is made for a concentric slave cylinder. To use either QU10061 or QU10062 with a 1996 transmission, you will have to order one extra part. The two options are:
Buy QU10063 1992-1995 Kit, and order QU10137 Input Bearing Cup
Buy QU10064 1997-2007 Kit, and order 2 QU10018 Reverse Idler Bearings.

Tech Note 2: More 1996 Changes
For the 1996 model year, GM changed the clutch slave cylinder from an external style used for 1992-1995 to an internal concentric slave cylinder that bolts to the front of the new, aluminum low profile input bearing retainer. As part of this change, a slightly thinner input bearing cup is used. 1992-1995 GM transmissions require QU10125 Input Bearing Cup. 1996-2007 use QU10137. For all years, the Input bearing is QU10124.

Tech Note 3: Reverse Gear Ratio Change
In 1997, New Venture changed the NV4500 reverse gear ratio from 5.61:1 to 5.04:1. The reverse idler gear bearings are different for the two ratios. QU10063 for 1992-1996 includes (2) QU10018 Reverse Idler Bearings. 1997-2007 Kit QU10064 has one double row QU10019 Reverse Idler Bearing. The two Bearings are not interchangeable.

Tech Note 4: Bearings
Six of the eight taper bearing numbers used by New Venture in the NV4500 transmission are Timken® high performance parts. While these bearings and cups are dimensionally the same as standard bearing numbers, the materials and finish are superior. The countershaft and input taper bearings/cups included in our Kits are the exact, high performance Timken® numbers specified by New Venture. These bearings can be identified by a one or two letter suffix after the base bearing part number. It is important to use the correct bearings in your NV4500 transmission as substituting standard bearings for high performance bearings will reduce the torque rating and longevity of your transmission.

Tech Note 5: QU10063 and QU10064 Kits
QU10063 and QU10064 Bearing and Seal Kits are specific to New Venture NV4500 transmissions in Chevy and GMC conventional 4x2 pickups or pickup based truck models. The rear transmission housing on these transmissions is aluminum and the output yoke is a 35 spline fixed type. These Kits will also work with C3500HD cab/chassis models and P-Truck panel delivery vans with the following additional parts:

Tech Note 8: Lubricants, Sealants, Threadlockers
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
