QU40620 3.54 Ratio 1978-1997 Ford Dana 60 Ring and Pinion Set (Non-Stock Special Order) is a genuine Dana, reverse spiral Ring and Pinion set that is unique to the Dana 60 monobeam front axles used in 1978-1979 Ford F250, F350 and 1985-1997 F350 4x4 trucks. The 1978-1997 Ford Dana 60 front axles were only available in two ratios, 3.54 and 4.10. Both our QU40620 3.54 ratio and QU40643 4.10 ratio Ring and Pinion Kits include a genuine Dana matched, reverse spiral gear set with pinion bearings, pinion seal, ring gear bolts, pinion nut, pinion washer, small parts, and shims.

Tech Note 1: Placement
A reverse spiral gear set is used on axles that have the pinion mounted above the center line of the differential. Reverse spiral gear teeth are cut in the opposite direction when compared to standard cut gears used in axles with the pinion located below the differential center line. The two types of gears are NOT interchangeable.

Tech Note 2: Only on 1978-1997
The reverse spiral Ring and Pinions used on 1978-1997 era Ford high pinion Dana 60 front axles are not found on any other application. Contemporary Dana 60 axles used on other vehicle makes have low mount pinions and standard cut gears. 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty Dana 60 front axles also use a reverse spiral gears et, but they have pinions that use a crush sleeve instead of shims to set pinion preload and a different type of pinion depth shim.

Tech Note 3: Matching Parts
QU20337U used 4.09 ratio gear sets are taken from axle assemblies our Research and Development Department had for part verification and tool design purposes and are available while supplies last. These are used gear sets only with no small parts or bearings. The teeth on both gears look good but since there are so many installation and use variables, we make no warranty as to durability or noise once they are installed!

Ring Gear Bolts are designed to be used once and only once.

Tech Note 5: Shims
Pinion preload is set using shims on 1978-1979 and 1985-1997 and Ford Dana 60 front axles.
