QU9999 NV4500 Short Shift Top Cover Assembly with Tower New takeout, late model, high rise, short shift, GM Shift Cover Assemblies with the shift tower (16mm fine thread) specific to 2002-2007 GM 2500HD and 3500HD. The tower and shift lever are just a bit taller than used in earlier trucks. Includes reverse shift fork pads. Does not include backup switch or vent hose. Will fit any 1992-2007 NV4500 transmission. Tech Note 1: Height
The higher body style of 2002-2007 Chevy and GMC 2500HD and 3500HD GMT800 series trucks required a higher shift cover for the NV4500 5 speed manual transmission option. The 2002-2007 shift cover has an integral tower base that is about 1" high compared to the earlier models 3/4". For the matching Shift Tower, the distance from the bottom of the plastic base to the tip lower shift tower stud is about 2-1/2". The earlier version was about 2.2". The 1994-2002 and 2002-2007 shift towers themselves are NOT interchangeable, however, all complete NV4500 shift covers with matching shift tower assembly will work on any NV4500 transmission including all GM and Dodge models.

Tech Note 2: Model Years
GM electronic parts books list both high rise and low rise shift covers for 2002-2003. Only QU9999 is shown for 2004-2007 model years. For earlier model tranmissions, see QU10706.

Tech Note 3: Body Style
For 2007, GM offered both GMT800 (Classic) and the new GMT900 body styles. NV4500 manual transmissions were only offered with the GMT800 body style.

Tech Note 5: Sealant
Early production NV4500 Transmissions used an anaerobic sealant (QU90003) to seal between the main case and input bearing retainer, top cover, and rear housing. Mid-production units used anaerobic sealant just on the input retainer and RTV for everything else. Later production transmissions used black RTV Sealant (QU90006 or QU90005) for everything. Either type of sealant works fine (except the PTO covers ALWAYS should be sealed with RTV), but I prefer RTV for all components. Regardless of which sealant you use, make sure excess sealant does not block the lube access hole at the top of input retainer pilot that fits into the transmission case. Also, the threaded holes in the main case for the four retainer bolts and 12 PTO bolts are open ended, so you must use new bolts with factory applied threadlocker or apply Threadlocker (S24200) to your existing bolts to prevent oil seepage past the bolt threads.
