Applications

Tech Note 1: Original Factory Hub Cam
The original Dualmatic and Selectro factory hubs were pretty tough for stock applications, but they do have a weak point with the original pot metal hub cam. If you just need a hub cam and gaskets, see QU50160 and QU50216.

Tech Note 2: Lubricate
Lubricating the moving parts on lockout hubs is critical for long life. When servicing your hub locks, use a THIN film of water proof grease like Pyroplex Plus on the moving metal parts. Do not pack the moving lockout parts with grease as this can cause engagement issues especially during cold weather. I like to liberally coat the axle shaft splines with grease for corrosion protection, but I only use a thin film of grease on the moving metal parts.

Tech Note 3: Wheel Hub Type
Two types of wheel hubs were used by Dodge for Dana 60 and Dana 61 front axles. 1975-1989 trucks used a wheel hub that took these QU50277 8 bolt, externally mounted lockout hubs. Later production trucks used an internally splined wheel hub and QU56011 Lockouts. There is conflicting documentation on the exact dates of the change over from external type hub mounting to internal, most likely due to the fact trucks were being manufactured in Canada, Mexico, and the United States at the same time and each plant probably made the switch when their inventory of axles with external type hubs was used up. For 1990 to 1991, Dodge lists both external and internal hubs. Dana lists only internal. We have seen a few 1990 models with external hubs, but most are internal. For 1991, most if not all, trucks should have internal hubs, but we did work on at least one 1991 dually with external hubs, so presumably there are more out there. All 1992 and 1993 trucks will have internal hubs.

Tech Note 4: Wheel Hub Upgrade for Higher Horsepower Applications
Tired of blowing lockout hubs or having the hub bolts loosen up? Or do you want to convert a 1975-1989 dually to singles? You can easily update your 1975-1989 era wheel hubs and lockouts to the 1990-1993 internally splined wheel hub and splined lockout hubs. While not cheap, it is simple because the spindles, axle shafts, brake calipers and brake caliper anchor plates are the same for all the 1975-1993 Dodge Dana 60 front axles. Our TK4996 Kit includes everything you need for the upgrade including the easier to install and totally reusable round spindle nut set. TK4996 includes:
(2) TKA4962 USA Made Torque King Splined Wheel Hubs with Timken Bearing Cups
(2) QU40119 OEM Dana Wheel Seals
(2) each Timken QU50398 Inner and QU50412 Outer Wheel Bearings
(16) QU50774 1/2" Wheel Bolts
(1) QU56011 Warn M256 Hub Set
(2) QU80005 Disc Brake Rotors
(2) QK4729 3 Piece Spindle Nut Sets
(1) QT1018i 4 Lug Spindle Nut Socket

Tech Note 5: Dualmatic,  Selectro, and Powertrain
Dualmatic was originally a Colorado based manufacturer who originally produced a lockout hub that was engaged by flipping 2 levers. In the mid 1970's, Dualmatic introduced a new, spring-lock hub design that featured a large, easy to turn control knob. Dualmatic produced hubs under the Dualmatic, Selectro, and Dana-Spicer Power Train brands. For a given application, the hubs were identical except for the name cast on the control knob face. Dualmatic would provide several hub models to original equipment manufacturers including Chrysler (1980-1990) and Rockwell, but in the 1990's, hub sales slowed and the hub manufacturing rights were sold by Dualmatic's parent company. Currently, several models of hubs are still available under the Selectro brand name. For identical applications, Selectro replacement parts and assemblies are totally interchangeable with large handle hubs branded Dualmatic, Selectro, or Power Train.
