Tech Note 1: Ford Only
Ford is the only vehicle manufacturer to use Dana 50 front axles. Dana 50 axles were introduced for the 1980 model year as an independent front suspension axle for F250 heavy-duty (1980-1997) and F350 (1980-1985.5). The Dana 50IFS axle was built for the North American market through the 1997 model year. I believe, it was also used on overseas built F250s to 1998. The Dana 50 monobeam axle debuted in 1999 model year F250 and F350 4x4s followed by the Excursion in 2000. The monobeam axles had a relatively short production life of 6 years with production ending in 2005 when Ford axed the Excursion (Although some 2005 Excursions were sold as 2006 models in Mexico).

Tech Note 2:  Dana 50 vs Dana 60
The physical size of Dana 50 gear sets is about the same as the Dana 44. Although it was intended to replace the bigger Dana 60 in Ford's 1 ton and heavy 3/4 ton models, It never really compared well strength wise with the Dana 60s installed in Dodge and GM 1 tons. Ford replaced the Dana 50IFS with a Dana 60 monobeam front axle in midway through the 1985 model year. The single rear wheel version of the F350 again got a Dana 50 in 1999, but it was quickly replaced by a Dana 60. However, the Dana 50 did hold up well in 3/4 tons and Excursions which generally see easier service conditions than the F350.
Dana 50 Ring Gear Diameter is 9". Pinion Spline is 1-1/8" x 26 spline. Ring Gear Bolt Count is 10.
Dana 60 Ring Gear Diameter is 9-3/4". Pinion Spline is 1-1/4" x 29 spline. Ring Gear Bolt Count is 12.
