QU40509 1330 Series Pinion Yoke for Dana 60 and Dana 70 Axles

QU40509 1330 Series Pinion Yoke for Dana 60 and Dana 70 Axles is a genuine Dana Spicer yoke that fits almost all 1970 to 1999 Dana 60, Dana 61 or Dana 70 front or rear drive axles. The Yoke is made to match universal joints made to Spicer 1330 series specifications. This Yoke directly replaces the stock 1330 pinion yoke on some 1977 to 1979 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks, but the primary application is to retrofit later Ford Dana 60 axles that used a out of production QU20179 1330F pinion Yoke. Also commonly used for Chevy, Dodge, and GMC Dana 60 front axles to take 1330 series universal joints instead of the undersized stock 1310 or 7260 series front u-joints supplied as original equipment.

Tech Note 1: 29 Spline Pinion
QU40509 is 29 spline Dana 60, Dana 61, or Dana 70 pinion yoke made to couple with driveshaft universal joints made to Spicer 1330 specifications. A 1330 u-joint is a 1-1/16" cup diameter, external snap ring type joint that has an overall width of 3-5/8". See TK40721 and QU40774 universal joints.

Tech Note 2: 1993 & Earlier Applications
For 1993 and earlier applications, matching pinion seal is QU40097 and Pinion Nut is QU40022. See QU40356 Crush Sleeve for later model Dana 60 axles in Dodge and Ford trucks that use a collapsible spacer instead of shims to set pinion rotating preload. All 1993 and earlier axles and many 1994 and newer Ford or GM Dana 60 axles use reusable pinion shims to set pinion bearing rotating preload. Never back off the nut to try and reduce the rotating preload of the pinion!!!! See TM4400 or the factory shop manual for your truck for rotating preload specs.

Tech Note 3: ¼” Shorter
QU40509 is 1/4" shorter than the original pinion yoke used on 2000-2002 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 4x4 Dana 60 front axles. QU40509 can be used in 2000-2002 Dodge Ram Dana 60 axles that originally used discontinued QU40379 yoke IF you remove the stamped steel slinger AND your driveshaft slip yoke can safely extend 1/4".

Tech Note 4: 1994-2002 Dodge
On 1994 to 2002 Dodge Dana 60 axles, pinion rotating preload is set by a crush sleeve (QU40356). When tightening your pinion nut, you have to be very careful as it will only take a small movement of the nut to go from too loose to too tight. If you over tighten the nut, you MUST get a new spacer and start over!!! Never back off the nut to try and reduce the rotating preload of the pinion!!!! See TM4400 or the factory shop manual for your truck for rotating preload specs.
