Tech Note 1: U-Joint Specs
QU40379 is made to accept external snap ring universal joints made to Spicer 1330 series dimensional specifications. Overall installed width of the u-joint is 3-5/8". Cup diameters are 1-1/16". Order TK40721 or QU40774 universal joints separately.
Tech Note 2: Seals
2000-2002 axles all have two-piece pinion seals consisting of an inner oil seal and an outer wiper seal. The outer wiper V-Seal is the same for all 2000-2002 axles, but two different, non-interchangeable inner oil seals were used so if you have a 2000-2002 truck, you will need to verify which seal your truck needs before ordering.
Tech Note 3: Product Note
The original QU40379 pinion yoke does not use an outer seal slinger and it is 1/4" longer than a "standard" Dana 1330 series pinion yokes like our QU40509.
Tech Note 4: Pinion Preload
Pinion rotating preload is set by a crush sleeve (QU40356). When tightening your pinion nut, you have to be very careful as it will only take a small movement of the nut to go from too loose to too tight. If you over tighten the nut, you MUST get a new spacer and start over!!! Never back off the nut to try and reduce the rotating preload of the pinion!!!! See TM4400 or the factory shop manual for your truck for rotating preload specs.
