Tech Note 1: Tech Help
Pinion Depth must be set before calculating the differential shim pack thicknesses. Use a dial indicator and QT1097 Master Bearings to determine the amount of shims required to get the correct gear lash and differential bearing preload. Tech Note 2: Shims
Typically, QU40311 Shim Kit has a selection of 0.003", 0.005", 0.010", and 0.030" thicknesses shims for both pinion preload and differential adjustment. Pinion depth shim thicknesses are 0.003", 0.005", and 0.010". With these shim sizes, building precise shim packs is easy.
