QU40215 Dana Axle Pinion Seal

QU40215 Dana Axle Pinion Seal is an original equipment spec pinion double lip pinion yoke seal manufactured by the Dana supplier for this seal since the 1970's. Fits most 1940s to early 1990s Dana 25, Dana 27, Dana 30, or Dana 44 front or rear axles. The inboard face of the seal shell has a bead of pliable factory applied sealant. USA Made.

Tech Note 1: Grease
The seal lip is pre-greased. Lightly grease the pinion yoke seal surface to provide initial lubrication prior to installing the yoke on the axle.

Tech Note 2: Original Equipment
QU40215 was original equipment on older axles in which the pinion bearing preload was set by shims.

Tech Note 3: Seal without Deflector
QU40215 features a deflector that matches a groove in the pinion slinger used on older axles. Dana has consolidated Pinion Seal numbers and is now replacing QU40215 Seal with lower cost QU40461 Seal which does not have the deflector. I believe the QU40215 deflector provides better protection for the seal lip so we do not use QU40461 in place of QU40215 in our Kits but you can do so if you wish.
