Tech Note 1: Always Replace
Always replace the pinion nut and crush sleeve when changing the pinion flange or seal. See QU20002 Nut and QU20000 Crush Sleeve.

Tech Note 2: Pinion Crush Sleeve and Nut
It will take A LOT of force to initiate the compression of a new pinion crush sleeve. Once it starts to collapse, the required torque will be reduced, but still high. You must tighten the pinion nut until all end-play is gone and you have reached the desired rotating preload. From too loose to too tight can take just a fraction of a turn! If you go over the maximum turning preload, you have to start over with a new QU20000. Never loosen the nut to get back to the desired setting!!!!!!
