Tech Note 1: Modifications
This Kit will directly fit 1989-1993 Dodge NP205 Transfer Cases from W250, W350 4x4 trucks with Cummins Diesel engines and New Process NP205 Transfer Cases. To use TK2001 in a conversion application may require machine shop modifications to your transfer case housing and transmission to transfer case adapter. The same Input Bearing and Input Seal was also used in Ford 31 spline and GM 32 spline NP205 applications. All other NP205 models used a smaller diameter input bearing.
Tech Note 2: Ford and GM NP205 Transfer Cases
The 29 Spline Input Shaft will fit all Ford direct mount and GM 32 spline direct mount NP205 transfer cases. However, since the 29 spline shaft has male splines you usually need to have some kind of housing adapter between your rear transmission housing and front of the transfer case main housing. The length will vary but somewhere between 4" and 5" long should cover most applications.
Tech Note 3: Replace with 29 Spline
If you want to replace your original GM 10, Dodge 23, or GM 27 spline input shaft with a 29 spline, you will either have to have your 205 main case modified or purchase one of our new QU50633 Large Bore Bare Cases. You will also have to have your transmission to transfer case adapter housing modified to accept the new Input Bearing and Seal or find a 1989-1993 Dodge factory adapter from a Diesel 5 speed W250 or W350.
Tech Note 4: Adapting
If you are adapting a 29 spline output Dodge NV4500 or NV5600 to use with a 29 spline NP205, you need to have the 4-1/2" wide cast iron factory round 6 bolt x Hourglass 8 bolt transfer case adapter. You also need to remove the transmission output seal and add an extra quart or so of oil to the transmission to fill the adapter space. Install a new TK10517 Double Lip, Double Spring Transfer Case Input Seal in the back of the factory adapter along with new TK10519 and TK10529 Gaskets included with the TK2001 Kit. TK10517 Seals oil both ways so it acts as both the transmission output seal and transfer case input seal. You must also apply Threadlocker to 8 bolts that attach the adapter to the transfer case.
