Applications

Tech Note 1: GM Synchronized NP205
GM used the synchronized version of the NP205 on 1982 to at least 1985 and perhaps as late as 1987 1 ton 4x4 trucks with automatic locking hubs.  I personally never like the synchronized cases because the front output low gear uses a small diameter bushing instead of needle bearings and the front output rear needle bearing is a lot smaller tan the one used on other NP205 models.  But, if you have one, we still have some of the parts.

Tech Note 2: Common Wear
NP205 Transfer Case Low and High Gears sometimes need to be replaced due to major wear on the clutch teeth.  Wear on the low gear inside bearing bore is even more common.  Worn clutch teeth can cause the transfer case to jump out of gear.  Worn Low Gear bearing bores can cause shift issues and clunking noises.  Idler Gears rarely need replacement unless the transfer case is run short of oil.

Tech Note 3: Matching Parts and Tools

Applications:
GM:
1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 GM 1 Ton 4x4 with automatic locking hubs and synchronized NP205 transfer cases
