QK4830 Dana 44 Axle Seal Kit with Adjustable Depth Axle Seal Tool Set Quickly and easily installs QU40159 Inner Axle Seal in 1970's to 1980's vintage Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, and Jeep 4x4s with Dana 44 front axles. Our unique installer design will press in your new, included, Inner Axle Seals without damage because the CNC Precision Machined Installation Tool cups the seal so force is only applied on the steel seal shell. QT1029 Installer tool does not have a depth stop so you can slightly offset the seal to clear a worn spot in the axle shaft, however, for a reference point, you will need to check the depth of the old seals before removing them! Tech Note 1: Teardown:
Your brakes, wheel hubs, axle shafts, and differential must be removed from the housing to replace your QU40159 inner axle shaft seals.

Tech Note 2: Inspect:
When replacing your inner axle seals, ALWAYS inspect your Ball Joints, Axle Universal Joints, Differential Bearings, and Wheel Bearings/Hubs for wear or damage. The extra time needed to replace these components is minimal since you already have the axle apart to do the axle seals.

Tech Note 3: Dana Model 44 Seals:
The inner axle seals used on Chevy, Dodge, Ford, GMC, IHC, and Jeep closed and open knuckle Dana Model 44 Front Axles will vary by year and model. Refer below to our model specific applications.

Tech Note 4: Custom Installer:
Due to the way we have to make the tool to function, your Seal Installer and Seal MUST match. QT1029 Installer will only work with original equipment design, NOK manufactured seals such as our QU40159. Seals manufactured by other seal manufacturers WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS INSTALLER!!!! We make our Tool EXACT so it will fit the seal and install super easy & perfectly in the axle housing. We like a professional installation in super quick time with no 'do overs'.

Tech Note 5: Adjustable Depth Installer:
QK4830 includes QT1029 Seal Installer which allows you to install included QU40159 Seals to a slightly deeper depth to miss a worn spot or groove or other damage on the axle shaft from your old seal. *However, YOU MUST be careful you do not set the seal TOO DEEP which may place the seal beyond the axle shaft seal surface!
To offset the seal:
First-temporarily place the seal installer in your old seal before you knock it out.
Mark the depth of our tool in your housing.
Remove the tool and old seals.
When you install the new seal(s), offset it from the original depth by pressing it in slightly more or less than the original seal depth as indicated by your depth mark.

Tech Note 6: Remove old seals:
Once the axle is disassembled, the old seals can be easily removed with our QK4647 Seal Remover Tool Set or other suitable tool such as a length of sturdy pipe that will fit inside the axle tube. You will also need to clean the inside of the axle tube to remove dirt and crud that could get pushed into your new seal during reassembly.

Tech Note 7: Replace badly grooved or rust pitted axle shafts:
Upon removal, check you axle shafts for damage in the seal contact area. If your axle shafts are badly grooved or rust pitted you will need to replace your axle shaft to prevent oil seeps or leaks. Less severe damage can be cleaned up with super-fine abrasive cloth and you can slightly offset the seal with our adjustable depth tool design so the seal lip will contact an undamaged surface.
