Tech Note 1: Bolt Size Change
When the Ford Dana 44IFS and Dana 50IFS Twin Traction Beam Front Axles were first introduced for the 1980 model year, 2 3/8" Bolts (QU95094) were used to secure the left axle beam bracket to the side of the IFS differential housing. The 3/8" bolts were undersized for the application and they were replaced by QU20815 1/2" Bolt as a running engineering change during the 1981 model year. The bolts are easy to identify on the truck. the early, 3/8" bolt has a 9/16" hex head. The later, 1/2" bolt has a 3/4" hex head.
