QU40683U USED Bare Front Spindle for 1971-1977.5 1/2 ton Dana 44 Chevy, GM full-size 4x4s is a good, serviceable, bare, used spindle for Chevy K5 Blazer, K10 and GMC Jimmy, K15/K1500 4x4s with front disc brakes and 6 bolt hub and rotors. QU40683U is just the bare spindle, it does not include spindle bearing, spindle seals, or thrust washer. Purchase QU40228 Spindle Bearing and Seal Kit separately. Tech Note 1: 1971 & 1972 Axles
All 1971 and most 1972 1/2 ton GM Dana 44 front axles use a 2" outside diameter slinger on the outer axle shaft. To use QU40683U spindle on your 1971-1972 axle with a 2" outside diameter outer axle shaft slinger, you also need QU40043 one-piece spindle seal and QU40232 bronze thrust washer.

Tech Note 2: 1972.5-1977.5 Axles
To use QU40683U spindle on 1972.5-1977.5 axles that have the 2-1/4" diameter slinger on the outer axle shaft, order the spindle and QU40228 Spindle Bearing and Seal Kit. Before installing the spindle bearing, check the depth of the spindle bearing bore. Spindles made prior to 1976 generally have a spindle bearing bore of a bit over 11/16" which is enough for the spindle bearing, but not QU40056 small V-Seal. Final production and replacement spindles have a 7/8" beep bore, so you can set the spindle bearing in deep enough to have room for QU40056 small V-Seal which is included in QU40228 Kit.

Tech Note 3: Verify 1977 Inner Wheel Bearing Cup Size
QU40683U Spindles were used from 1971 to early 1977 on GM 1/2 ton Dana 44 front axles. The matching inner wheel bearing has an inside diameter of 1-25/32". Most 1977, 1/2 ton GM 4x4s with Dana 44 front axles used QU40313 spindles and use 2" inside diameter inner wheel bearings. If you have a 1977 axle, verify the inner wheel bearing size!

Tech Note 4: Grease
Before installing your new spindle, lube the bearing, seals, and thrust washer with QU90018 Pyroplex® grease. Also, apply some Anti-Seize Compound to the mating surfaces between the spindle and steering knuckle.
