Tech Note 1: Snap Ring Groove
1-1/4" long Split Steel Steel Spacer has the same function as the spring and plate, but it requires an axle shaft snap ring groove that has the back edge of the groove located about 5/8" from the end.

Tech Note 2: Function
You will mainly find these Spacers in 1985-1993 Dodge Dana 44 front axles with Central Axle Disconnect, plus some late production Jeep Wagoneer axles. The Spacer replaces BOTH QU40050 Spring and QU40035 Spring Plate used on previous models. The function of this part is to locate the hub drive gear in the proper location so the outer axle shaft will stay fully engaged with the spindle seals and thrust washer. The inboard end of the Spacer goes against the outer wheel bearing cup and the outboard end will be against the back side of the drive gear.

Tech Note 3: When Installing
Hub Gear Spacers are used with either QU40428U 7/8" wide single width drive gear OR QU40657U 7/8" wide stepped drive gear. Most applications that use these Spacers have multiple snap ring grooves cut in the outer axle shaft. You need to install the axle shaft snap ring in the groove which has it's back edge about 5/8" from the end.
