Description

QK4041 10 Piece Stackable Under Bearing Pinion Depth Shim Kit for 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty Dana 60 Front Axles includes 2 each 0.010", 0.015", and 0.020" PLUS 4 0.012" pinion depth shims. Combine 2 or more shims to create the perfect pinion depth shim pack for your 1999-2004 Ford Super Duty Dana 60 front axle. Like the original Dana shims, these shims fit between your inner pinion bearing and Dana 60 pinion head. 10 piece Shim selection allows you to make shim packs with no more than 0.002" jumps from 0.030" to 0.067" which easily covers the original Dana pinion depth range of 12.2mm (0.048") to 15.7mm (0.062") with an extra range of choices to cover all manufacturers gear sets. NOTE: Shim thicknesses are nominal, shims may vary up to +/- 0.0015".

Applications

Tech Note 1: Stock Pinion Depth Range
1999-2004 Dana 60 axles in Ford Super Duty 4x4s will generally have a single factory under bearing pinion depth shim between 12.2mm (0.048") to 15.7mm (0.062") thick. Dana supplies the D441995 Shim Kit for this application which includes 8 pinion depth shims which range in thickness from 12.2mm to 15.7mm with a 0.5mm jump between shim sizes. If you need shims thinner than 12.2mm or than thicker shim than 15.7mm, order this QK4041 Stackable Shim Kit.

Tech Note 2: Pinion Depth Shim Options
The Pinion Depth is set by a combination of a selective fit shim between the inner pinion bearing and pinion head PLUS QU40030 pinion oil baffle located under inner pinion bearing cup. NOTE: When adjusting your Pinion Depth, you can replace or supplement the OE style under-bearing shim with shims located under the bearing cup, but if additional shim adjustment is required, QU40030 oil baffle may be destroyed or damaged when you remove the bearing cup to change the shims. If you wish to use a combination of under cup and under bearing shims, order D440448 Dana Combination Shim Kit OR both QU51060 Under Bearing and QU50847 Under Cup Basic Shim Sets.

Tech Note 3: Pinion Preload
QU40356 Collapsible Spacer or "Crush Sleeve" is used to set set Pinion Rotating Preload on genuine Dana ring and pinion sets. If you over-tighten the pinion nut, the rotating preload will be too high and you will need to replace the crush sleeve with a new one and start over. Yukon replacement ring and pinion sets use several stacked pinion preload shims (QU50816) to set rotating preload.
