Description

QU40266 Dana 60 Upper King Pin is a genuine Dana Spicer service part for Dana 60 and Dana 61 open knuckle, king pin front ends. The hardened steel Upper King Pins rarely wear out if regular greasing was performed, but all too often someone forgot what a grease gun was for over the long lives of the vintage heavy duty 4x4s equipped with these axles. So, if your King Pins are rough, worn or rusty, here is the replacements! Use QT1064 Socket.

Applications

Tech Note 1: Torque Specified
The king pin torque specified in the Dana Model 60 Axle Manual is 600 ft-lbs. To replace them you will need our QT1064 ¾" drive impact socket/hex bit and S9979 high strength Threadlocker. Our QK4550 Kit includes 2 QU40266 King Pins, QT1064 Socket/Bit, and S9979 Threadlocker.

Tech Note 2: When Replacing
When replacing King Pins, you MUST make sure the vehicle is SECURELY SUPPORTED! More than one truck has been dropped on the ground by the torque applied by big wrenches and cheater bars. If you do not know how to safely work on your vehicle, HIRE A PRO!

Tech Note 3: Installing
Installing your new Kingpins usually presents no problems as long as you have QT1064 Socket/Bit and a 3/4 drive torque wrench calibrated to at least 600 lb.-ft.. However, due to corrosion, removing the old ones can be a real witch unless you have a really good 3/4" or 1" drive impact wrench. A trick that usually works is to anneal the old King Pin with a torch taking care to keep the direct flame away from the axle C forging, than weld a 1.75" nut to the old King Pin. The heat from annealing and welding breaks down the old thread locker and loosens the corrosion. Be sure to let the weld cool before trying to remove the King Pin. ALWAYS disconnect the battery before welding!!!
