QU40160 2-5/8" OD Front Inner Axle Shaft Oil Seal for many Dana Axles

QU40160 Dana 44 and Dana 60 Inner Axle Shaft Oil Seal was used on a few later 1970's Ford and Jeep vehicles. This 2-5/8" outside diameter genuine original equipment seal fits 1973-1977 Ford F-250 Crew Cab trucks with the Dana 60 front axle. The same seal is used in Dana 44 front axles on most 1978, 1979 Ford Bronco and F-150 4x4s. Dana 44 front axles in most 1978-1983 Jeep Cherokee and 1978-1991 Wagoneer 4x4s also use this seal. One of these Seals are installed in each axle tube, right next to the differential to keep gear lube from leaking out the ends of the axle housing, so order 2 seals per vehicle. Made in Singapore.

Tech Note 1: Before Installing
Your brakes, wheel hubs, spindles. axle shafts, and differential must be removed from the housing to replace your QU40160 inner axle shaft seals. Use QK4647 Tool Set to remove the old seals.

Tech Note 2: To Install
Once the seals are removed, you need to clean any dirt, grit or crud out of the diff housing and axle tubes. After that, you can install your new seals. Seal installation is best done with our tooling made for your specific application. Sometimes you can get by with makeshift installers you cobble together, but in most cases, using makeshift tools just guarantees you get to do the job all over again.

Tech Note 4: Causes of Seal Failures
These Seals can be wrecked by grit, crud, seaweed, baling twine, etc., getting in the axle tubes and taking out the axle seal lip. Blown axle u-joints can also cause seal failures. Seals will also fail from improper installation, wear, plugged axle vents, and the rubber lip cracking from plain old age. On a lot of older trucks, just removing and reinstalling an axle shaft will take the seal out because the seal lips have hardened with age.

Tech Note 5: After Installing
After the seals are installed, be sure to grease the lips to provide initial lubrication for the seal lip. Neglecting this step will usually cause the seal to fail the first time you use 4x4 mode. Do NOT grease the axle shafts as the grease will pick up crud as they are slid into the axle housing.
