QU40077 Locking Spindle Nut for Model 60/70 Full Float Dana Spicer Rear Axles is a genuine Dana Spicer original equipment, single use, right hand thread, replacement elastic stop Spindle Nut for most late 1970's to early 1990's Dodge 3/4 and 1 ton trucks using Dana Spicer Model 60 and 70 full float rear axles. QU40077 also fits some 1980-1987 Ford models equipped with Dana Spicer Full Float Model 60, Model 61, or Model 70 Rear Drive Axles. Always use with new QU40089 Lock Wedge. See Tech Note below! Tech Note 1: Safety Note!
QU40077 Spindle Nuts and QU40089 Spindle Nut Lock Wedges are "Single Use", genuine Dana Spicer original equipment components. These parts are designed to be installed once and only once! For safety reasons, you must discard both the nut and wedge if they are removed from the spindle for any reason! Both parts lose a percentage of their resistance to coming off when they are removed. You may hear of cases where this type of factory nut has come off while the truck was being driven. Invariably, these failures involve nuts and wedges that have been reused. I am not aware of a single instance of a properly installed new nut and wedge coming off like that. In my opinion, the original equipment nut design is as safe to use as our double nut sets as long as you follow the rules.

Tech Note 2: Wheel Bearing Adjustment:
Many wheel seal leaks are caused by improper wheel bearing adjustment (For Dodge, See TSB4008).

Tech Note 3: Fords:
Most Ford axles that use this type of spindle nut will use QU40077 for both left and right sides, however some Fords used a now discontinued left hand thread nut on the left (drivers) side and QU40077 right hand nut on the right (passenger) side.
