Applications

Tech Note 1: Product Note
QT1139 Custom-fit Seal Installer is specifically made to install your QU40307 Jeep inner axle shaft oil seal easily and without damaging the seal. Precision CNC machined right here in Montana, this Adjustable Depth Installer is used in conjunction with axle model specific Forcing Screw and Thrust Plate to make successful installation of your tight fitting axle seals simple, Easy, and straightforward. The seal fits the face-grooved Installer like a glove, so it will not cock or crush during installation.

Tech Note 2: Must Remove
Like almost all solid beam axle shaft seals, QU40307 Seals are pressed in the inboard ends of the axle tubes next to the differential. It is impossible to replace the seals from the outside! You must remove the hubs, axle shafts, and differential to replace these seals.

Tech Note 3: Inspect Shafts and Axle Tubes
Whenever you remove the front axle shafts on your Jeep, inspect the shafts and axle tubes for any signs of differential fluid leakage. It's a lot cheaper and easier to replace the seals than rebuilding your diff after it blows up due to oil starvation! Differential removal is required for replacing either or both axle seals so you should replace both seals even if only one is leaking. These are tricky seals to install, but you can EASILY do it with our tools! QT1032 differential case spreader is definitely recommended but not absolutely required for differential removal/installation. Extra seals, differential cover gaskets, and RTV sealant are available separately.

Tech Note 4: Old Seal Removal
Once the axle is disassembled, the old seals can be easily removed with our QK4647 Seal Remover Tool Sets or other suitable tool such as a length of sturdy pipe that will fit inside the axle tube. You will also need to clean the inside of the axle tube to remove dirt and crud that could get pushed into your new seal during reassembly.

Tech Note 5: After Seal Installation
After the seals are installed, be sure to grease the lips to provide initial lubrication for the seal lip. Neglecting this step will usually cause the seal to fail the first time you use 4x4 mode. Do NOT grease the axle shafts as the grease will pick up crud as they are slid into the axle housing.
