Tech Note 1: Aftermarket Replacement
QU11074 is an aftermarket replacement yoke for the original Dana QU40747 yoke. It does not include a slinger and we have no slinger available to fit it. This usually is no problem for a front yoke, as road splash is normally minor for front axle applications.

Tech Note 2: Reasons to Replace
Pinion Yokes usually need to be replaced for one of two reasons, either the U-Joint failed and wrecked the yoke or the seal surface is grooved. A grooved hub on the yoke will quickly cause a new seal to fail. While it is possible to put a stainless steel wear sleeve on the old yoke, this type of repair rarely lasts very long on light duty truck applications because the thickness of the wear sleeve substantially increases the friction between the seal lip and ground hub of the yoke leading to rapid seal wear and subsequent premature seal failure.

Tech Note 3: U-Joint Size
QU40747/QU11074 Pinion Yokes accept a universal joint with 1-1/8" diameter u-joint cups positioned in the yoke by internal C-Clips. The distance between the yoke ears is 2-5/8". From 1993 to 1998, Dodge used a joint in which all 4 cups used internal C-Clips (TK40722, QU40775). For most, if not all of 1999, a special conversion joint was often used (TK40804, QU40764). This special joint still used C-Clips for the pinion yoke, but has external snap rings for the driveshaft. By now, some of these older trucks have had modifications, which may include a changed axle assembly or pinion yoke. VERIFY your truck still takes this yoke by checking it against the dimensions BEFORE you order! A few minutes of your time now, will make both our lives easier! (See Tech Notes 4, 5, 6)

Tech Note 4: 1993-1998
For 1993-1998, you can verify this is the correct yoke by these characteristics: Matching u-joint cup is 1-1/8", matching u-joint cups have c-clips that seat against the INSIDE of the pinion yoke ears, inside of pinion yoke ears are 2-5/8" apart and are machined flat, bolts for holding universal joint straps have 1/4" thread and 3/8" hex head. If those specs do not match your parts, YOU NEED A DIFFERENT YOKE! The matching 7290 series u-joints are TK40722 or QU40775.

Tech Note 5: 1999
For the 1999 model year, most Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 4x4s use a special 7290 x 1330 conversion u-joint. The 7290 series pinion yoke (QU40747/QU11074) takes u-joint cups measuring 1-1/8" in diameter and uses c-clips that seat against the INSIDE of the pinion yoke ears. The driveshaft slip yoke (usually QU40701) takes 1-1/16" diameter u-joint cups retained by external snap rings. The matching 7290 x 1330 series u-joints are TK40804 or QU40764.

Tech Note 6: Late 1999
Late 1999 Dodge Ram 2500, Ram 3500 4x4 trucks may be found with a straight 1330 series universal joint. The pinion yoke is QU40509 which takes 1330 series u-joints with 1-1/16" cups, does not use c-clips to center the u-joint in the pinion yoke, does not have machined inner yoke faces, has cast tabs in the u-joint saddles to hold a 3-5/8" wide u-joint in place, and uses 5/16" bolts with 5/16" hex heads.
