Tech Note 1: Use Proper Tools
Successfully installing an inner seal without the correct Seal Installer is usually a good exercise in increasing your blood pressure. Makeshift methods don't usually get the job done due to the restricted area you need to work in, and the amount of compression needed to be applied to the seal. Due to the way we have to make the tool to function, your Seal Installer and Seal MUST match. QT1079 will only work with original equipment design, NOK manufactured seals such as our QU40057. Seals manufactured by other seal manufacturers WILL NOT WORK WITH THIS INSTALLER!!!! We do not manufacture installers for this application to fit any other competitive seal designs such as National or NAK.

Tech Note 2: Seals
For the 1979 model year, Dana replaced QU40057 Seal with QU40307 Seal. QU40307 Seal which was used on Jeep Dana 30 axles all the way through 2006. Dana supersedes QU40057 seal which requires QT1079 installer many years ago, but for those purists out there who want to restore their vintage CJ to exact original specs, we can still supply QU40057 early seal wand QT1079 installer. The primary difference in the seals is with the length and diameter of the axle shaft guide.
