Introduced as the optional Transfer Case for the 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 trucks and 2007 Dodge Ram 4500, 5500 trucks, the NV273D Electric Shift Transfer Case has proven to be a reasonably reliable unit. The NV273D is an electric shift, chain drive transfer case with a 2.72:1 planetary driven low range and aluminum case castings. It was built at the New Process plant in East Syracuse New York until production was switched to Mexico in 2010-2011. Ram replaced the New Venture Transfer Cases in Ram heavy-duty trucks with Borg Warner units in mid-year 2012.
