All 1969-1972 GM Dana 44 front axles had round, four slot spindle nuts from the factory. These parts can typically be reused, but you MUST always check the pin in the Inner Nut. IF the pin is damaged or broken, REPLACE THE NUT!!!
Except for mid to late 1972 production axles which use one of two sizes of a rubber V-Seal, all 1969 to 1972 GM Dana 44 axles had a steel case grease seal pressed in the back side of the spindle. Neither seal design is water-tight, so you should clean and regrease your spindle bearings every two to three years or after immersion in water. Owners of 1972 axles with axle universal joints that measure 1-3/16" need to verify the outside diameter of their outer axle shaft slinger before ordering parts.
