All 1974-1991 Jeep J-Series full size 4x4s have Dana 44 front axles. Jeep Wagoneers and standard Cherokees have narrow track front axles that are about 4" narrower than the wide track axles used on J10, J20 trucks and Cherokee Chiefs. The inner axle shafts are not interchangeable between narrow track and wide track front axles. 1974-1976 J-Series models with drum brakes have shorter outer axle shafts compared to those used on J-Series Jeeps with disc brakes.
