GM used both one piece and two piece Inner Axle Shaft Oil Seals in 1969-1970 Open Knuckle Dana 44 front axles. Dimensionally, the two types are interchangeable. All 1971 and 1972 axles were built with the one piece seal that combines the Seal and Guide into a single unit. I always replace the two piece Seal with the one piece as I believe it has greater sealing ability plus longer life. With a closed knuckle axle, seal seepage from the differential often goes unnoticed until the a catastrophic ring and pinion failure occurs because the errant lube ends up in the knuckle ball. These Seals are tricky to install so I recommend you also order our optional installation tooling. Axle disassembly including differential removal is required to replace the Seals.
