GM first used the American Axle Manufacturing AAM 1150 14 Bolt Full-Floating Rear Axle in 2001 model year Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 series trucks. The AAM 1150 is a conventional iron beam rear axle with an 11-1/2" diameter ring gear.
