Ford only used 3800 pound rated Dana 60 closed knuckle front axles in 1974 and 1975 F-250 Crew Cab 4x4 trucks. Externally, the axle looks very similar to the Dana 44HD axle that was an option on F-250 regular cab models. Ford built a good number of 1974-1975 Crew Cab F-250 4x4s, but most were shipped to Alaska for use during the construction of the Trans-Alaska (Alyeska) Pipeline so they are relatively rare today.
1974-1975 Ford Dana 60 closed knuckle front axles use the same hubs, spindles, and outer axle shafts as the Ford Dana 44HD 3500 pound front axle optionally installed in contemporary F-250 regular cab pickups so the best way to ID the axle is by the size of the differential cover.
