International first used the open knuckle Dana 30 with the new Scout II which which replaced the Scout 800B in mid-year 1971. Jeep followed a year later with the redesigned 1972 CJ-5/CJ-6 Universals and Commando. Jeep would retain the Dana 30 all the way to the end of CJ production in 1986. International, however offered an optional Dana 44 starting in 1972. Most sources state the Scout did not use the Dana 30 after 1974, however, International Parts Books do not list an end date for the Dana 30 and Spicer axle catalogs do show International used the Dana 30 as late as 1977 so there may be a few special production or base model 1975-1977 Scout II Dana 30 axles out there.
