1966-1979 Driveshaft Identification Ford Front

Ford used conventional single Cardan (one u-joint at each end) for all 4x4 F100 and F250 front driveshafts through 1972. From late 1973 through 1979, Double Cardan Constant Velocity front shafts were increasingly used instead of standard Single Cardan shafts through 1979. All the Ford 4x4 front driveshafts of the 1959 to 1979 era were made to attach to fixed half yokes at the transfer case and rear axle.

If your Vintage Ford has a front CV driveshaft, see our 1970-1979 Ford Front CV Driveshaft Page.

Ford used four different Spicer type external snap ring universal joints in 1959-1979 era Ford F100 to F250 4x4 Single Cardan Front Driveshafts.
