2005-2006.5 Ford F350 DRW Rear Hub
2005 to 2006.5 Ford F350 Dual Rear Wheel (DRW) Trucks with 6.0L Powerstroke Diesel and 6.8L gas V10 engines use the reliable and well proven Dana 80 Rear Axle. (2005-2006.5 5.4L gas F350 duallys typically have Sterling 10.5" rear axles.)
The Dana 80 is a conventional, integral type housing hypoid gear iron-beam axle with two pinion bearings. The pinion is located below the centerline of the ring gear. Ring gear diameter is 11-1/4". Both Conventional (Open) and Limited Slip differentials were offered for the F350. On diesel powered trucks, the differential cover is of finned aluminum construction to help dissipate heat.
The Dana 80 DRW rear axles equipping 2005-2006.5 Ford F350 DRW trucks have larger inner rear wheel bearings and wheel seals compared to those used with 1999-2004 and 2006.5-2010 F350 Dana 80 rear axles. QU20182 2005-2006.5 F350 Dual Rear Wheel Rear Wheel Hub uses replaceable inner and outer tapered wheel bearings. QU40102 right-hand thread ratchet type spindle nut is used for wheel bearing retention and adjustment using special tool number QT1019i. The conventional QU40555 wheel seal also requires a special installation tool (QT1545) to prevent damage to the raised steel seal shell.
An o-ring is used to seal between the full-float type axle shaft and wheel hub. The axle shaft is retained by 8 QU42308 metric bolts with factory applied threadlocker. Reuse of the axle shaft bolts is not recommended by Ford Motor Company.
The Axle Shafts have 35 Splines. There are 6 different Axle Shaft lengths depending if the axle is from a pickup (wide frame), 34" frame cab and chassis (narrow frame), or an ambulance chassis. In addition, the Left and Right Axle Shafts are different lengths for each vehicle type.
The wheel bearings should be packed with grease to provide initial lubrication. In service, 75w140 Synthetic Differential Oil that travels into the wheel hub will provide long-term wheel bearing lubrication.
The brake rotor is a separate part that bolts to the back side of the hub with 8 bolts.
