Dana Super 60 Front Axle Introduction
The 6000 pound rated Dana Super 60 Monobeam Front Driving Axle was used for all 2011-2016 F250 and F350 4x4 trucks. These axles feature a 3-Link, Coil Spring Suspension, reverse rotation gear sets, unitized wheel hub assemblies, and either manual or vacuum locking hub locks. The disc brake system uses dual piston, floating calipers and the steering knuckles include integrated caliper anchor mounting points.
Ford is the only American vehicle manufacturer that used Dana front axles in 2011-2016 full size 4x4s, and it is a reliable and strong front axle. The most common service parts required are Brake Pads, Hublock Service Kits, Outer Axle Shaft to Knuckle Seals (which require QT1530 Seal Installer), Cartridge Type Axle Tube Dust Seals, Axle U-Joints, Wheel Hub Assemblies, and Ball Joints. The Cartridge Type Axle Tube Dust Seals are not that effective, and they often trap moisture and grit in the axle tubes which can lead to premature failure of the oil bath type inner axle oil seals.
A specific Dana Bill of Material Number (BOM) is assigned to each axle assembly. The BOM is a 7 digit number that starts with a 2, followed by a dash number (ex: 2013981-1). The BOM number can be found on a white Mylar decal located on the back of the right axle tube. We use the BOM and your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to identify optional axle features.
