Tech Note 1: When to Rebuild
If your Dana 80 is howling, whining, or you're seeing metal in the gear oil, it's time. Don't run a noisy differential hoping it will quiet down — it won't. The longer you wait, the more expensive the repair gets. Worn carrier bearings let the ring gear walk out of alignment with the pinion, which accelerates wear on the gear teeth and eventually leads to catastrophic failure.
