Tech Note 2: Replace After Removal
I like to replace Diff Cross Shaft Lock Screw on every service that entails removing it. Why? Because these little guys are subject to fatigue weakening and are easy to over torque during installation. Twist the head off one of these Screws and you now have a BIG Problem: with a Semi-Float rear axle, you can not remove the differential until the axle shafts are taken out, but you can't get the shafts out until you remove the diff cross shaft and axle shaft C-Clips, which can't be removed due to the broken Lock Screw.
