Warn M256 Introduction
Warn M256 (p/n 11690) Plastic Dial Hubs have undergone a number of revisions over the years.
Figure A shows the 7/8 turn dial type used to the mid 1980's and the early hub body with a plastic bushing to support the axle shaft gear. From the mid-1980's to the late 1990's, Warn used the early Hub Body and the (Figure B) 1/3 Turn Dial Assembly. From then until now, Warn M256 Hubs use the 2nd design Hub Body with bronze bushing supported axle shaft gear and 1/3 Turn Dial. The early and late Body and Dial Sub-Assemblies are interchangeable, but most individual component parts are not.
Warn M256 series Plastic Dial Hubs were introduced in 1978. The first original equipment fitment was by Ford on the 1980 F250 and F350 with Dana 50IFS Front Axles and Ford would continue with M256 hubs through the 1994 model year. Effective with the 1985 model year, GM installed Warn M256 hubs on most of their their 1 ton square body 4x4s until series production ended in 1991. Dodge used the M256 on Dana 60 equipped W250 and W350 4x4s for the 1990 through 1993 model years.
