Spicer 1410 Series and AAM 1415 Series Driveshaft Universal Joints are nearly identical, but not directly interchangeable as the overall installed width of the two universal joint types are 0.010" different. A Spicer 1410 Series U-Joint installed in an AAM 1415 Yoke will typically be VERY tight and the increased friction will shorten the life of the part. Installing an AAM 1415 series U-Joint in a Spicer Yoke will usually result in a loose fit that can affect driveshaft balance. We do have special snap rings that are thicker or thinner than "normal" for conversion applications, but we recommend you stay with the correct series original equipment type u-joints for your driveshafts whenever possible.
identifying which type of uninstalled u-joint you have in your hands is difficult because the difference is only 0.010" AND with most modern u-joints, the seals fit is so tight that the u-joint must be clamped to compress the seals.
Spicer 1410 Series U-joints first appeared in the 1950's and have been used on most domestic truck makes at one time or the other all the way to the present day. AAM 1415 universal joints first appeared in 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 rear driveshafts. GM also uses AAM 1415 series u-joints in the rear driveshafts of some 2007-up models.
Aftermarket u-joint catalogs are highly unreliable in their listings of 1410 and 1415 series universal joints.
