How to ID a Spicer Type 1310 x 1330 Series Unequal Length Cross Driveshaft U-Joint or What is my 1959-1977 Ford truck u-joint size?
Spicer 1310 x 1330 series u-joints with External Lock-Up (Snap Rings) were only used as an original equipment u-joint by Ford. Introduced in 1953 for the F100, this u-joint is a rarity conversion part for original equipment driveshafts and it is surprising that it lasted as a OE part all the way to 1977 in the F250. For 4x4s, Both the F100 and F250 used the 1310 x 1330 u-joint from 1959-1965 for the front and rear driveshafts. The 3-7/32" wide 1310 leg typically fits the driveshaft yokes and the 3-5/8" wide 1330 leg the axle and transfer case yokes.
A 1310 x 1330 Series U-Joint is retained in driveshaft yokes by Snap Rings that fit into grooves machined in the driveshaft yoke ears and that seat against the end of the U-Joint Cap. To attach to axle and transfer case end yokes, u-bolts are used to secure the u-joint and the yokes will have cast tabs in the yoke saddles to hold the u-joint from lateral movement.
1310 x 1330 series u-joints are also found in many repower and conversion applications to adapt a 1310 driveshaft to 1330 end yokes or vice versa.
