Ford Motorcraft® Transfer Case Fluid (1 Quart)

1 quart Ford Motorcraft® XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid is the Ford Motor Company recommended transfer case oil for most 1980 to current Ford 4x4 trucks and truck based SUVs with Part-Time, AWD, or Torque on Demand transfer cases. Motorcraft Transfer Case Fluid is for use in late model transfer cases that already require XL-12 plus those older transfer cases where Dexron® II, MERCON^® or Mercon® II ATF was previously recommended. Motorcraft^® Transfer Case Fluid is a high-tech lubricant manufactured using man-made base oils and additives that are optimized to provide optimum lubrication for transfer case bearings, chains, and shafts. THIS ITEM IS DISCONTINUED AND NO LONGER AVAILABLE! Ford has replaced it with Mercon LV.

*XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid has been discontinued by Motorcraft® and replaced by Mercon LV. As of May 2019 an old Motorcraft web page still listed Mercon LV as Not For Use in Transfer Cases, but the most recent LV page specifically states LV is now for all transfer cases. You may also use QU90046 Valvoline Transfer Case Fluid for a direct replacement.

Tech Note 1: Use with
For use in all 1980-current conventional Ford chain drive transfer cases and pre-2012 MY Torque on Demand transfer cases. A partial list of compatible Ford Transfer Cases:

Tech Note 2: Synthetic?
Although Ford does not market it as such, Motorcraft® XL-12 Transfer Case Fluid would meet the marketing definitions for being a synthetic or synthetic blend oil.

Motorcraft^® Transfer Case Fluid XL-12 is manufactured with high-viscosity index, premium-quality, hydroprocessed base oils and specially designed performance additives to provide increased protection against deposit, rust, corrosion, and wear. Tech Note 4: What about Mercon V?
The current formulation of Mercon, Mercon® V is NOT recommended for use in transfer cases.

Tech Note 5: Do Not Use In
Do not use Motorcraft^® Transfer Case Fluid in automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, power take off units (PTU) or fluid couplers. Do not use in transfer cases where MERCON^® LV ATF is recommended. Do Not use in pre 1980 transfer cases including Dana 20, Dana 21, Dana 24, NP203, or NP205 models!

Also do not use Motorcraft Transfer Case Fluid in 2017 and newer Ford Super Duty F250, F350, F450, and F550 4x4 trucks with Borg Warner 44-64 Electric Shift and 44-65 Manual Shift Transfer Cases!
