Tech Note 2: Matching Driven Gears
The speedometer driven gear meshes with a drive gear on the 4x4 transfer case rear output shaft or 4x2 transmission mainshaft. The driven gear shaft snaps into the QK1047U housing. The number of teeth on the driven gear will vary depending upon your truck's axle ratio and tire size. Fast ratios like 3.23 will use a gear with less teeth than a slow ratio like 4.09. Installing significantly larger tires has the same effect as installing a faster gear ratio. You may need to use a driven gear with less teeth to make your speedometer show an accurate speed. Driven gears with an approximate overall length of 2-13/16" that will fit QK1047U housing are:
