Tech Note 1: Rockwell T221 Yoke Seals
Rockwell T221 Transfer Cases came from the factory with 3/4" wide, double-lip, double-spring seals that seal in both directions. The factory seals, which are no longer available, protrude from the bearing retainers from 3/16-1/4". The QU30300 seals we selected for our Rockwell T221 Kits are only 5/16" wide so you can order extra seals and double them up to either increase the oil sealing ability on worn yokes (install both seals with the open side of the seal towards the oil) or opposed (install the seals so they face each other) so the outer seal keeps out crud. QU30300 Seal features Polyacrylate Seal Lips which have an operating temperature range of -40 to 300 degrees F. It has been our experience that standard 250 degree F rated nitrile seals will fail prematurely from heat when used in Rockwell T221 transfer cases that are operated for extended periods at modern highway speeds.
