Tech Note 2: Gasket
GM used a cut gasket instead of RTV sealant between the diff cover and diff housing on the 10 Bolt Front Axle. While you can substitute RTV sealant in place of the gasket, I prefer the using both QU30104 gasket and a tiny bit of RTV. I apply just a thin bead of sealant to each side of the gasket to fill in any imperfections. The combination seals perfectly and seems to be a lot cleaner and faster to replace at the next axle service.
