Description
QU5001 1989-1993 Dodge Cummins Diesel to NV4500 or NV5000 Heavy Duty Bellhousing replacing Getrag G360 5 speed transmission. Fits 1989-1993 Dodge Diesel, but 1992-1993 will require the use of TK11680 bracket. Note: As of September 2024, the all new NV5000 5 speed is now available to use for this conversion as a heavy-duty upgrade instead of using a used or reman NV4500.

Tech Note 3: NV5000 Backup Light Switch
The NV5000 does not include a backup light switch. Your old G360 switch will fit the NV5000, however since the switch location is on the back of the cover, your original wires may not be long enough to reach the switch. To solve this problem add these parts to your order: QU10132 switch, QU10147 gasket, and QU90002 pigtail.
Tech Note 4: Input Retainer Modifications
If you are using the original Sachs type, 13" clutch you will need to slightly modify the input bearing retainer nose with either the NV4500 or NV5000 transmission. The bearing retainer must be removed from the front of the 5 speed and shortened to a length that is 4.297" long (this is between 1/4" and 3/8" shorter than the original length). This can be done by using a hacksaw or engine lathe. By shortening the bearing retainer, this will prevent any interference with the hub on the clutch disc. I recommend you shorten the nose regardless of the clutch you use, but if you are using a different clutch such as the Luk type 12.4", you can check the difference in the clutch hub height to determine if you will need to shorten the input nose.
Tech Note 5: Check Bellhousing Clearances
Before final bellhousing installation, fit the bellhousing up to the back of the Cummins block to check flywheel and clutch assembly clearance on the inside of the new bellhousing. After installing the bellhousing to the engine, turn the engine over by hand to check of any interference. You may need to slightly grind on the inside of the bellhousing for added clearance for the ring gear or 13" original cast iron clutch cover.
