Tech Note 1: Lubricate
Lubricate the seal lip and yoke shaft with clean grease or petroleum jelly to provide initial lubrication.
Tech Note 2: Tech Help
More driveshaft yokes are wrecked by slam-bang methods of u-joint replacement than by any other cause. Refer to TM3000 Driveshaft and Universal Joint Manual or TSB3502 External Snap Ring Single-Cardan U-Joint Service.
Tech Note 3: Rear Output Bushing and Seal
Always replace the rear output bushing and seal when installing a new yoke. Use QU10180 Rear Output Bushing and either QU10178 Standard Seal or QU10264 Booted Seal.
Tech Note 4: Matching U-Joints
This 29 spline based on 30 spline spline transfer case rear output yoke takes universal joints made to Detroit Universal 7260 series dimensional specifications. 7260 series u-joints are retained by internal c-clips that fit against the inside of the yoke ears. The u-joint cup diameter is 1.078", the width between the yoke ears must be 2-1/8". Use with QU40751 7260 series greaseable universal joints. QA41036 measures 6-5/8" from center of u-joint to end.
