Tech Note 2: Shim Increments
Individual Pinion Depth Shims are available in 0.001" increments from 0.006" to 0.024" thick. Shims may stacked to achieve the correct pinion depth. Most of these original equipment Shims will be stamped with a number indicating the thickness in thousandths of an inch
Tech Note 3: Adjusting Pinion Shims
Unlike most light truck axles, the GM 14 Bolt pinion shims are used to adjust the pinion gear AWAY from the ring gear. With most other axles, the pinion depth shims move the pinion towards the ring gear
