Tech Note 1: Includes
QU40260 includes 13 sizes of Dana 80 Outboard Spacers ranging from 0.204" to 0.240" in increments of 0.003" plus two 0.030" thick shims that fit between the diff bearings and differential case.

Tech Note 2: Pinion Depth
Pinion Depth must be set before calculating the differential shim pack thicknesses. Differential adjustment on 1996 and newer Ford Dana 80 axles uses a combination of selective fit inboard shims placed between the differential bearing and differential case plus selective fit steel outboard spacers located between the bearing cup and axle housing. The reusable outboard spacers range in thickness from 0.182" to 0.242". Use a dial indicator and QT1099 Master Bearings to determine the amount of selective fit shims required to get the correct gear lash and differential bearing preload. Tech Note 3: Shim Kit
The 1996-2010 Ford Dana 80 rear axle is designed so the thick Outboard Spacers are changed to alter backlash and differential bearing preload. Only a minimal thickness of inboard shims are used on factory axles. If you need to make minor adjustments, you can get a larger selection of inboard shims by ordering QU40213 Dana 80 Diff Shim Kit for Dodge and 1988-1995 Ford.

Tech Note 4: Bearing Preload
Dana 80 pinion bearing preload is set by shims placed between the pinion shoulder and outer pinion bearing. No crush sleeve is used!

Tech Note 6: For Ford Dana 80
This Kit works on all 1996-up Ford Dana 80 rear axles. Dodge and 1995 and earlier Ford have fixed thickness Outboard Spacers and use thicker inboard shim packs to adjust backlash and differential bearing preload.
