Tech Note 1: Saginaw vs Spicer
The one great advantage of AAM/Saginaw type CV Joints over Spicer type CV Joints is they are usually much cheaper to rebuild when a lack of lubrication CV joint failure occurs. With a Spicer type, needle bearings ride on a 1/2" diameter stud that is part of the yoke welded to the tube, so you usually have to have a machine shop replace the weld yoke. With the Saginaw design, a hardened, replaceable Ball is pressed on the stud so you almost never need to change the weld yoke. Also, it is cheaper and easier to rebuild a Saginaw type Flange Yoke.
