Mechanical Locking Differentials provide 100% lockup in low traction conditions, but they sometimes affect steering response  when both wheels remain locked because the inside front wheel, which needs to slow down during a turn may not disengage under slippery conditions. Mechanical Lockers can be used in front axles where maximum traction is desired.
