QT1539 Installer for 2005-up Ford Super Duty 4x4 Front Axle Tube Dust Seals

QT1539 Installer for 2005-up Ford Super Duty 4x4 Front Axle Tube Dust Seals is a USA made, heavy-duty, solid steel tool that will quickly and easily install those previously hard-to-install QU20049 Spicer Original Equipment Cartridge Type Front Axle Tube Dust Seals on 2005 and newer Ford Super Duty F250, F350, F450, and F550 4x4 front axles. QU20049 Seal gets driven into the shallow pocket machined in the outboard face of the Cast "C" Yoke welded on the end of each axle tube. The seal lip is a rubber ring that will grip the axle shaft. When the axle shaft rotates, the seal lip rotates with it inside the Steel Seal Shell. We strongly recommend you use QT1539 Installer with one of our optional QT1100 series Driver Handles (see Tech Note 1) to install QU20049 Seals as they can be difficult to install using makeshift tools. QT1539 Installer has a Black Oxide finish and it is made by us here in Montana from domestic, high strength steel.

Tech Note 1: Matching Driver Handles
Made for QUAD 4x4/Torque King Bearing and Seal installers with 5/8" center hole. Use 8" for general purpose use, or 14" for deep seated bearing cups such as inner pinion and transmission case. Available in 1" diameter for general purpose use (QT1100 8", QT1101 14" and 1-1/4" diameter for professional use (QT1116 8", QT1119 14").

Tech Note 2: 2 Types of Dust Seals Used on Super Duty 4x4s
QU20049 cartridge type seal replaced QU40538 Dust Seal which goes on the inner axle shafts next to the u-joint yoke. QU40538 contacts the outer end of the axle tubes and it was used on most, but not all 2005-2010 Super Duty 4x4s. Axle shafts made for the QU40538 seal have part of the yoke machined away to create a ledge for the QU40538 to fit onto.  QU20049 was used on some 2008-2010 models and nearly all 2011 to current trucks.  QU20049 is a better, longer lasting seal under most conditions, however there are a couple of drawbacks. To use this type of cartridge seal, you have to remove the axle shaft guides from the inner axle shafts. Without those guides, getting the inner axle shaft to enter your QU40244 inner axle oil seals located next to the differential is tricky, especially with the long, right side axle shaft. The other drawback is if water or crud gets past the seal it will stay in the axle tubes until the axle is disassembled. While this may not affect a high percentage of Super Duty 4x4s, it can and does happen. QU20049 Seal can be used on all 2005-current Super Duty 4x4s. QU40538 Seal can only be used on axle shafts that were originally made for it.

Tech Note 3: Dust Seals are NOT Oil Seals
QU20049 and QU40538 Dust Seals are designed to keep dust and crud from getting into your axle housing tubes, they are NOT oil seals!. If you see evidence of differential oil seeping out of the ends of you axle housing, the inner axle seals located next to the differential are leaking. To replace the inner axle seals, you need to remove the differential from the housing to access the seals. For Inner Axle Oil Seals see QU40244 (Original equipment 2005-2010) and QU20463 (2nd Design Seal, original equipment 2010-up, but fits all 2005-current).
