Tech Note 1: Prep
These new front case halves are bulk shipped from the factory without individual packaging, so airborne contaminants can get into the bearings. I suggest you clean the bearings and mating surfaces immediately prior to assembly. The Takeout Cases are from new transfer cases we disassembled for parts.

Tech Note 2: Casting Number
Both NV271D and NV273D Transfer Case Halves have the same 09104 casting number. However the NV271D and NV273D Front Cases are NOT interchangeable due to machining differences.

Tech Note 4: NPG-NVG-MPT
The 271D and 273D transfer cases were built at Chrysler's New Process Gear plant in Syracuse, New York until that plant closed in 2010/2011 and assembly was shifted to Mexico. When production of these transfer cases began in mid 2002, the New Process plant was operated by New Venture Gear, hence the NV prefix. New Venture, which was a joint venture between Chrysler and General Motors folded a short time later. The NV prefix continued to be used even after New Process was sold to Canadian owned Magna, but you may find later models referred to NP instead of NV models. For a specific assembly number, the Transfer Case and all the component parts are the same regardless if it is identified as an NP or NV assembly.
